I'm Alfonso. Alpha Beta Design is the studio I run.

Alpha Beta Design studio workspace

I'm a UX/UI designer who builds. Alpha Beta Design is the studio name on the contracts and the case studies, but the work is mine end to end. Strategy, design, and Next.js implementation.

Eighteen years of design and marketing leadership before going full-time UX/UI. Most recently Director of Marketing and DTC Operations at VARA Winery, where I rebuilt the e-commerce platform and ran brand for the Somos Unidos spirits line. Before that, VP of Operations at Boomtime, leading the team that shipped UX/UI work for 100+ client sites across healthcare, legal, hospitality, and e-commerce.

I work best with founders and small teams who care about the craft but need to ship. I offer three engagement shapes because that is what I actually do. Not a menu I'm willing to grow into.

Outside the studio I'm building Barreiro Design System, a Figma library that powers everything I ship.

I work with AI as a drafting partner. First-pass copy, code scaffolds, variants worth considering. The judgment on voice, structure, and fit stays mine. Once the direction is set, the AI gets out of the way.

Principles

Earn every element.

Nothing on the page should be there because it usually is. If it doesn't help, it goes.

Systems beat one-offs.

Components, tokens, and patterns make the next decision easier. Not just this one.

Show the seams.

Constraints, trade-offs, and the why behind a choice. Polish without context is just performance.

Ship to learn.

Real users on real sites tell you what no review can. The first version is data, not a deliverable.

The interview is the brief.

Before the wireframe, before the proposal. The buyer's job-to-be-done sets the work, not the brief they handed me.
